ShitAI
It's the end of the world so let's make some money!
The Review by Philo β ShitAI π©
Is it the end of the world yet?
Boy, we went from "AI is going to solve our labour, productivity and money problems forever and ever" β to "AI is going to END HUMANITY" real fast!
Feels like the incentives of those pushing those narratives shifted, and their words changed as a result.
If you recall, in Low Hanging Compute we tackled those exact theories head on, and coined the term Technological Determinism to explain what was happening.
Technologists tend to fall into these intellectual traps.
Like economists believe in market fundamentalism, and geneticists (and others) believe in genetic determinism, so do technologists believe in technological determinism.
The Meme Version
And if you're more visual as a person β see the below.
We basically went from this...

To this...

Why the change of tune?
Closed-source AI was always under threat from their cheaper, Mandarin-speaking, open-source cousins.
But that was still a secondary worry as these AI Labs were in a full-on features race against themselves β and the rest of the world.
- You won't need anyone else in your life, ever again
- We no longer need human workers, sorry
- All software companies are ded
- Abundance and prosperity to all
- We must beat China, can't stay behind!
- AI cannot be regulated!
And then the narrative just changed...

AI Worries?
In the last days of 2025 we published "3 Worries for 2026" to touch on three things that we saw brewing as key risks in the 2026 horizon:
- AI
- Oil, Geopolitics and OPEC
- Fiscal Decay
...all three have been major market-moving events this year β and it's only September!
We have more to say about the other two β but let's hold back and just focus on AI now.

Unlike the market, we were focused on Real Economics Vs Hype Economics: that's what led us to the hypothesis that Darth Vader is going to take over one of the two major AI labs. More here π

AI Brothers β> ShitAI π©
In June we published AI Brothers, to draw parallels between the trio of OpenAI, Anthropic and SpaceX β with the Lehman Brothers crisis of 2008...
This was the key question I asked in AI Brothers:
How would demand for AI infrastructure shift when AI kills its maximalist approach in an unavoidable race to the bottom?
And here we are β the AI trio, all in unison, have stated they will pull back from training more competent models.
P.S. Now that they have proven they need to abuse the system via regulations and other posturing, to survive β let's just rename them to ShitAI, to more properly describe them!
Or maybe ShitAI LABS? Because first, that's what they call themselves β and second that's what they are...
Labs testing things on us β that need protection from the government, so they don't pay the price when something goes awry.
Damn, reminds me of Covid.

Now, what comes next?
I might have a few things to say about that...
P.S. The CoTrader 3000 bundled offering with Philoinvestor is coming to an end soon, so if you were planning on joining us: now would probably be a good time.
