💬New Philochat
"We are late bro"
Hi, I’m Philo, founder of Philoinvestor. I’m a generalist, opportunistic, and idiosyncratic investor who believes the best opportunities come from independent thinking, not consensus or vibes.

South Korea is in full crisis mode after the KOSPI drew down 45% from its peak on June 19th. That's almost a cutting in half in 40 days.

I didn't just create this meme now, after the fact, no we used this meme in a tweet from mid-May that you can find here.
Why?
Because it was obvious. We published on the setup in memory and AI in two pieces – the last being after Micron's blow-UP results.

Lack of AI Opportunities
As I said in the last Philochat..

Yesterday we published Leveraging Distribution to analyse the setup on NFLX, after the recent sell-off. We first wrote about this name in May '22 when Ackman sold, more in the post below.

Updates on EdTech
Duolingo
Many hated Duolingo, both on the way up and on the way down!
- DUOL is up 60% since April when FinTwit "sold me their shares" and reports in a few days – expect volatility.
- We have covered this company ever since its IPO and reminded readers about the opportunity in a Philochat from early May here.
Coursera
COUR reports tonight after-hours, and I expect to hear more on their post-merger progress. But there's also something else... 👀
- Last night Coursera announced a $100mln investment in Andrew Ng's newest "AI-native Learning" company.
*Coursera Makes $100 Million Strategic Investment in LearnVector, a New AI-Native Learning Company Founded by Andrew Ng.
With the $100mln commitment, Coursera owns 1/3 of the company and further executes on its strategy to remain on the cutting edge of EdTech and AI.
LearnVector is building one-to-one learning experiences using Agentic AI. This is mission critical as Coursera expands its ecosystem of learners and educators across geographies and subject matter.
For the stock, this could be pivotal as psychology on the company has been in the doldrums for quite some time..
Let's see results tonight and share price action in the next few days. Could get interesting.

P.S. What was early last month is apparently now "too late". Koreans on margin have been liquidated, leveraged ETFs are now going to be regulated and sadly there is no chance suicides aren't going to spike from here.
We opened "Flash Philo on Memory" for free members to access, so they can see for themselves what we were saying when everyone was pumping memory hard.
